Hello, viewer!
Thanks for checking out the site! You clicked this link to learn more about why this exists, so let me get right to it.
What this is not:
A professional networking group or paid membership based organization. There are plenty of awesome ones already doing great things.
Not a startup. We don’t sell anything, track visitors, or gate access.
Not about sugarcoating. Life in Maine can be hard. We’re here to lift all boats, not pretend the water’s always calm.
What are we working on?
The Website.
Small, meaningful events that center art, nature, storytelling, and unexpected connections.
Collaborating with individuals and organizations to make Maine Tech Week 2025 a reality.
What’s the mission?
To crowdsource a free, valuable visual resource, and create events that amplify Maine’s creative, media, and tech ecosystem. This includes film and entertainment companies, visual production studios, recording studios, solo creators, artists, established tech companies, and startups. The community is open to everyone across and between these fields.
What’s the vision?
To build a community-led, informal collective that tells our story wherever we go. One that complements the work of existing organizations and fills gaps through volunteering, storytelling, and connection.
Why did I start the Silicon Lobster?
When I moved back to Maine, I found it tough to learn who was doing what.
But why is it called Silicon Lobster?
It’s not about our rare lobsters (though we do have some wild ones—blue, calico, ghost, two-faced). In 2014, Dave Kerpen, author of Likeable Social Media, told the Press Herald that Maine should call its tech scene “Silicon Lobster.” I liked it. Eleven years later, I picked up the domain. Here we are.
